Finding 24-hour Caregivers in the Portland Metro Area
You’re in the right place, 24-hour care is our specialty! Caregiver Connection recommends a team of 3 to 5 caregivers to cover our 24/7 clients. The benefits of this arrangement are significant: caregivers stay well-rested, balanced and professional, and are able to bring their individual strengths to the job without burning out.
In addition to providing caregivers for the Portland Metro area, Caregiver Connection may be able to serve you with a team for 24-hour care within 2 hours of Portland, such as McMinnville, Scappoose and the Oregon Coast; contact us to find out more.
Finding Live-In Caregivers in the Portland Metro Area
Caregiver Connection does not provide live-in caregivers; that is, a caregiver who gives up a personal residence to move into the care receiver’s home. We find there are significant drawbacks to a live-in caregiver arrangement.
For example, your live-in caregiver may lack personal space and a sense of “down time” when the relief caregiver is there; complications if the caregiver does not work out as planned; and the concerns of a single individual moving in with a potentially vulnerable senior. Also consider, why might it be that a skilled, reliable and trustworthy caregiver does not have lodging already?
If you are still certain that you want a live-in situation, consider the internet-based caregiver resource at right.
Finding Short-Shift Caregivers in the Portland Metro Area
While Caregiver Connection may be able to refer caregivers for short shifts of 2 to 6 hours, one to three times per week, our stable pool of independent caregivers tend to prefer longer hours. We are generally unable to provide short shifts more than 3 times/week.
For short shifts, consider contacting these resources:
In-Home Care Agencies
Caregiving agencies are a good fit for light-duty, daily companionship care providing basic ADLs such as light housekeeping and meal preparation. Caregiver qualifications and skill levels may vary widely. Restrictions on caregiver duties may apply, especially regarding medication administration, driving, or physical care including transfers, such as from bed to chair. You pay the agency, which acts as employer and supervisor of the caregiver.
Internet-Based Caregiver Searches
You search online for a caregiver with parameters such as skills, zip code and location. Nominal site use fees may be charged. You are responsible for all aspects of screening and employment. You pay the caregiver directly and are responsible for payroll taxes when you pay the caregiver more than $1,000 in a quarterly period. Here is one website that has been around since 2006:

There may be other options online, we encourage you to shop around!
